Licence & Test Process
30 practice questions for the BTT
Getting a Singapore car licence follows a fixed sequence. You pass the Basic Theory Test, apply for a Provisional Driving Licence (PDL) so you can take lessons on the road, pass the Final Theory Test, and then take the practical driving test. You must be at least 18 years old for a Class 3 or 3A car licence.
The theory tests are computer-based and taken at the driving centres. The Traffic Police describe the actual test as 50 questions to be completed in 50 minutes, and offer a free online practice tool in English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. A PDL is valid for two years, and once you pass the Final Theory Test you have two years to pass the practical test before the FTT pass lapses.
Passing is not the end of it. New drivers serve a one-year probation and must display a P plate, and the licence is revoked for collecting too many demerit points or for repeatedly failing to display the plate. The questions below cover each step so you know what to expect.
