Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Steer SG, formerly Theory & COE and COE Price Tracker ("we", "our", or "us"), developed by The Everest Lab, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you use our mobile application ("the App") on iOS and Android, and our website at coeprice.com ("the Website"), who receives it, and the choices you have.

By using the App or Website, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Summary

• No account or sign-up. We never ask for your name, email, or phone number.
• The App contains no advertising and does not use your device's advertising identifier.
• The Website shows ads from Google AdSense on some pages. Google may use cookies for them (see section 5).
• The App and Website collect anonymous usage statistics, and the App sends crash reports, through Google Firebase.
• Your saved cars, price alerts, carparks and theory practice progress stay on your device.
• Analytics events never contain your name, car name or plate, anything you type, or your email address.
• We do not sell your information.

3. Information the App Collects

Usage analytics. The App uses Google Firebase Analytics to record which screens and features are used: for example, opening the Prices tab, starting a theory practice set or mock test and its score, answering the question of the day, opening an official handbook, or using one of the four car questions (afford, car cost, car worth, road tax). Along with these events, Firebase receives the App version, device model, operating system version, language, an approximate country or region derived from your IP address, and a random app-instance ID that identifies the installation, not you. We use this only to understand how the App is used. It is not used for advertising.

Usage groups. To compare how different groups use the App, it also sets a few non-personal labels on the app-instance ID: the stage you picked (learning, buying or owning a car), the App's language and the theory question language, which test you practised most recently, whether you have saved a car (not which car), how many price alerts you have (0, 1, or 2 or more), whether notifications are on, whether you use a home screen widget, your theory readiness as a band (for example "50–74%"), and how far away your test date is as a band. Your exact test date, car names, plates and registration details are never sent.

Crash reports. If the App crashes or hits an error, Google Firebase Crashlytics receives a report containing technical details about the failure (such as the code location, device model, operating system version, and free memory) and the same app-instance ID.

Push notifications (Android). To send the "new COE results" notification, the Android App registers with Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, which issues a device token. The token is used only to deliver that notification.

No location. The App does not request or use your location. Carpark search works on names and addresses you type.

4. Data Stored Only on Your Device

The App stores the following on your device to provide its features. This data is not sent to us or to anyone else:

• Cars you save in My Car: the name you give it, COE category, registration date, and optionally its OMV and road tax and insurance renewal dates
• Your price alerts (category and target price) and reminder settings
• Carparks you save
• Theory practice: your progress on each question, the test you are preparing for and its date, your question language, flagged questions, and the question-of-the-day language used by the widget
• Official handbook PDFs you choose to save for offline reading
• Cached COE results and price history (refreshed every 6 hours)
• App preferences and home screen widget configuration

The Website's My Car calculator stores the values you enter, and the theory quizzes store your best score per test or topic, in your browser's local storage. They are not sent to us. You can delete App data by uninstalling the App, and Website data by clearing your browser's site data.

5. The Website: Analytics, Advertising and Cookies

Analytics. The Website uses Google Firebase Analytics to count page views (with the page's type and language), clicks on the app download buttons and on links to official sources and handbooks, theory quiz starts and completions with the score, question-of-the-day answers (right or wrong), language switches, and the first use of each car calculator on a page. The numbers you type into a calculator are never sent. Google receives the page address, the referring page, your browser and device type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address, and sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) to tell repeat visits apart.

Opting out of analytics. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, the Website does not load Firebase Analytics at all. Browser extensions that block analytics also work; the Website and its download buttons keep working either way.

Advertising. Some Website pages, such as blog articles and COE result pages, show ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and/or other sites on the Internet. You can learn more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of other vendors' personalised ads at aboutads.info. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change your choice at any time.

Hosting. The Website is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver pages and may set essential security cookies to protect the site from abuse. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them does not stop the Website from working.

6. Where the App Fetches Data From

Besides the Google Firebase services above, the App makes requests only to fetch public data:

• Official handbook list: coeprice.com/data/handbooks.json, the current links to the Singapore Police Force's theory handbooks
• Official handbooks: when you open or save a handbook, the PDF is downloaded directly from police.gov.sg (Singapore Police Force), never through us
• COE prices: a static data file we publish on GitHub Pages, updated every 6 hours
• COE prices (fallback): data.gov.sg, the Singapore Government's open data portal
• Carpark availability: the data.gov.sg carpark availability feed

These requests contain only standard HTTP headers. They carry no identifier and none of your saved data.

7. Notifications

Price alerts, bidding reminders, and My Car reminders (COE expiry, road tax, insurance, PARF rebate step-downs) are local notifications generated on your device from data stored there. On Android, the "new COE results" notification is delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging (section 3). Notifications are optional. You can deny or revoke permission at any time in your device settings.

8. Third-Party Services

The following providers receive data as described above. Each handles it under its own privacy policy:

The App and Website also link to external websites (such as the app stores and LTA's OneMotoring). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.

9. Data Retention

Analytics data is kept by Google Firebase for no longer than 14 months and then deleted automatically. Crash reports are kept for 90 days. Push notification tokens stop working when you uninstall the App. Uninstalling the App also resets its app-instance ID, so future usage cannot be linked to past usage.

10. Children's Privacy

The App and Website are general-audience tools about car ownership in Singapore and are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Data Security

All network requests made by the App and Website use HTTPS encryption. Data stored on your device is protected by your device's built-in security (passcode, biometrics, encryption).

12. Your Rights

Under the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA), and where applicable the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you may ask to access, correct, or delete personal data relating to you, and withdraw any consent you have given. Because we do not know who you are, we hold no data that can be looked up by your name or email. If you want the analytics data for your installation deleted, contact us and we will help you find its app-instance ID.

You can also delete all App data at any time by uninstalling the App or clearing its data in your device settings, and opt out of personalised ads as described in section 5.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App or Website after any modifications constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
