What Stood Out

• Biggest mover: Cat D, +9.5%. Overall, every category rose.
• Record: Cat B set a new high for our records (since July 2017).
• Record: Cat E set a new high for our records (since July 2017).
• Unusual: the Open category ($126,201) closed below Cat B ($126,889). Cat E can be used for any vehicle, so it normally sits at or above Cat B.
• Most contested: Cat C, with 1.82 bids for every COE available.
• Supply: the total quota grew +5.2% to 1,886 COEs.

Category by Category

Cat A (small cars) rose $4,297 (+4.5%) to $99,499. A year earlier, in Aug 2022 Ex 1, it was $80,000, so the premium is 24.4% higher year on year. That puts it in the upper part of its 12-month range of $80,000 to $103,721.

Cat B (large cars) climbed $8,888 (+7.5%) to $126,889. It is the highest Cat B premium in our records, which begin in July 2017. A year earlier, in Aug 2022 Ex 1, it was $107,001, so the premium is 18.6% higher year on year.

Cat E (open category) rose $4,091 (+3.4%) to $126,201. It is the highest Cat E premium in our records, which begin in July 2017. A year earlier, in Aug 2022 Ex 1, it was $113,000, so the premium is 11.7% higher year on year.

Cat C (goods vehicles) inched up $99 (+0.1%) to $82,100. A year earlier, in Aug 2022 Ex 1, it was $56,089, so the premium is 46.4% higher year on year. That puts it in the upper part of its 12-month range of $56,089 to $91,101.

Cat D (motorcycles) climbed $1,000 (+9.5%) to $11,501. It is the highest Cat D premium since Apr 2023 Ex 2 ($12,179). A year earlier, in Aug 2022 Ex 1, it was $11,000, so the premium is 4.6% higher year on year.

Bidding Competition

Cat B drew 1.81 bids per COE, well above its 12-month average of 1.39. Some COEs went unallocated: Cat D (79 of 522). Unallocated COEs are added to the next exercise’s quota.
