Category by Category

Cat A (small cars) inched up $301 (+0.9%) to $33,000. A year earlier, in Aug 2019 Ex 1, it was $32,725, so the premium is 0.8% higher year on year. That puts it mid-way through its 12-month range of $30,000 to $35,320.

Cat B (large cars) climbed $2,101 (+6.0%) to $37,102. It is the highest Cat B premium since Jan 2020 Ex 2 ($37,705). A year earlier, in Aug 2019 Ex 1, it was $40,001, so the premium is 7.2% lower year on year.

Cat E (open category) rose $1,501 (+4.3%) to $36,502. That is its 3rd rise in a row. It is the highest Cat E premium since Jan 2020 Ex 2 ($37,500). A year earlier, in Aug 2019 Ex 1, it was $40,512, so the premium is 9.9% lower year on year.

Cat C (goods vehicles) inched up $212 (+0.9%) to $24,100. A year earlier, in Aug 2019 Ex 1, it was $27,800, so the premium is 13.3% lower year on year. That puts it in the lower part of its 12-month range of $22,002 to $27,800.

Cat D (motorcycles) jumped $1,191 (+18.3%) to $7,701. A year earlier, in Aug 2019 Ex 1, it was $4,400, so the premium is 75.0% higher year on year. That puts it at the top of its 12-month range of $3,601 to $7,702.

Bidding Competition

Cat A drew 2.00 bids per COE, well above its 12-month average of 1.52. Cat B drew 2.13 bids per COE, well above its 12-month average of 1.41. The Cat A quota fell −21.6% to 1,022 from the previous exercise. The Cat B quota fell −30.4% to 932 from the previous exercise.
