Cat A (small cars) dropped $1,922 (−6.7%) to $26,667. It is the lowest Cat A premium since Mar 2019 Ex 2 ($26,659). A year earlier, in Jul 2018 Ex 2, it was $32,699, so the premium is 18.4% lower year on year.

Cat B (large cars) jumped $5,406 (+15.9%) to $39,406. A year earlier, in Jul 2018 Ex 2, it was $32,551, so the premium is 21.1% higher year on year. That puts it mid-way through its 12-month range of $31,001 to $48,010.

Cat E (open category) climbed $2,988 (+8.1%) to $39,889. A year earlier, in Jul 2018 Ex 2, it was $32,809, so the premium is 21.6% higher year on year. That puts it mid-way through its 12-month range of $30,851 to $52,502.

Cat C (goods vehicles) fell $490 (−2.0%) to $24,599. That is its 6th fall in a row. It is the lowest Cat C premium in our records, which begin in July 2017. A year earlier, in Jul 2018 Ex 2, it was $30,889, so the premium is 20.4% lower year on year.

Cat D (motorcycles) jumped $473 (+15.4%) to $3,554. It is the highest Cat D premium since Mar 2019 Ex 1 ($3,602). A year earlier, in Jul 2018 Ex 2, it was $6,189, so the premium is 42.6% lower year on year.

Bidding Competition

Cat A drew 1.17 bids per COE, well below its 12-month average of 1.43. Cat E drew 2.00 bids per COE, well above its 12-month average of 1.63. The Cat A quota rose +13.4% to 1,623 from the previous exercise.
