Cat A (small cars) inched up $250 (+1.0%) to $26,170. That is its 3rd rise in a row. A year earlier, in Jan 2018 Ex 2, it was $36,890, so the premium is 29.1% lower year on year. That puts it in the lower part of its 12-month range of $23,568 to $40,000.

Cat B (large cars) climbed $1,789 (+5.6%) to $33,989. It is the highest Cat B premium since Aug 2018 Ex 1 ($34,381). A year earlier, in Jan 2018 Ex 2, it was $42,661, so the premium is 20.3% lower year on year.

Cat E (open category) rose $780 (+2.4%) to $33,689. That is its 3rd rise in a row. It is the highest Cat E premium since Jun 2018 Ex 2 ($34,400). A year earlier, in Jan 2018 Ex 2, it was $44,000, so the premium is 23.4% lower year on year.

Cat C (goods vehicles) fell $772 (−2.9%) to $26,230. It is the lowest Cat C premium in our records, which begin in July 2017. A year earlier, in Jan 2018 Ex 2, it was $39,000, so the premium is 32.7% lower year on year.

Cat D (motorcycles) plunged $721 (−20.0%) to $2,889. A year earlier, in Jan 2018 Ex 2, it was $8,001, so the premium is 63.9% lower year on year. That puts it at the bottom of its 12-month range of $2,509 to $8,451.
