When you look at a car’s price breakdown in Singapore, one figure quietly drives much of the total: the Open Market Value (OMV). Understanding it helps you see where your money actually goes — and why two cars with similar showroom prices can cost very differently to own.
What Is OMV?
The Open Market Value is the price the car is assessed at when it enters Singapore, as determined by Singapore Customs. It includes:
- The purchase price of the car
- Freight (shipping)
- Insurance
- Other charges incidental to the sale and delivery
In short, OMV is the car’s “landed cost” before any Singapore taxes or the COE are added.
Why OMV Matters
OMV is the base on which several costs are calculated:

Where to Find a Car’s OMV
OMV figures for registered vehicles are published by the LTA, and dealers typically disclose them. A lower OMV with a high showroom price can indicate a larger dealer margin — useful context when comparing models.
